THE CRY BEYOND THE DOOR

"Once again Koontz delivers a fast-paced, suspenseful thriller that will keep readers on the edge of their seats. Protagonist Darla is doing her best to piece her life back together but finding out her dad's secret quickly catapults her into dangerous situations once more. Just like its predecessor, The Cry Beyond The Door is easily engaging. The writing has a great flow as expected, and the plot has good depth including a complex twist that many won’t see coming. Despite being a sequel, new readers will find this is a solid standalone that they can enjoy. Simply put, this is another great read from M.A. Koontz, a brilliant mystery for fans of the genre."

"M.A. has created a very likable character in 30-something Darla Kelly. Things were going fairly well until she had a strange car accident. Then we met a lot of characters whose part they played in this intriguing story was unknown at first. ... M.A. weaves an intricate story and explains it all by the end. She also introduces us to a new technology for artificial heart valves. This turns out to be crucial to the story and a couple of murders. Find out what happened!"

What a fantastic read that grabs you from the beginning and never lets you go.
Darla, who is still struggling after the loss of her father, finds herself hurt from a car accident and kidnapped. Lost and afraid, she has no idea the path her life is about to go on to discover the truth of what led her to where she is.
Koontz does a fantastic job of taking on the difficult task of switching from first to third person in a way that keeps the reader interested engaged throughout. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. I look forward to more from Koontz!

I absolutely loved this book! I haven't read a fast-paced, edge-of-your-seat thriller like this in a while and it certainly delivered. The writing was fantastic and flowed so easily. The author took the creative turn of telling the story from multiple third-person POVs, except for the protagonist, Dr. Darla Kelly, whose story is told from the first-person POV. This made it so interesting because you're inside Dar's head as she's using the pieces of her very concussed brain to figure everything out. Why was she in an accident? Why is she no longer in the hospital? Whom can she trust? Along the way we meet the other characters who are so magnificently vague as the narrative unfolds. As Dar's realizations become clearer, she finally begins to understand her circumstances, but will it be too late? Special shout out from this former medical sales rep to the awesome storyline of selling defective medical devices made from cheaper materials imported from other countries. This is a huge problem in the medical industry as profits are becoming more important than patients. I thoroughly enjoyed that storyline and the entire book. Happy reading!
